Mobile hotspots are available to borrow from the Middleton Public Library! A WiFi hotspot is a portable device you can use to connect a mobile-enabled devices, such as a laptop, smartphone, or tablet, to the internet. The hotspot allows multiple devices to connect at a time. Please do not return the hotspot to a dropbox as it may be damaged. Please return the hotspot to the front desk.
Who can borrow a mobile hotspot?
Anyone who has a yearly Middleton Public Library card in good standing and is 18 years or older. If you have a $5.00 (five dollar) fine, or more, on your account you will not be allowed to check out a hotspot until the fine is cleared. **revised 2/22/2021**
How do I check out a hotspot?
See the front desk staff to fill out an electronic device agreement or fill one out online!
How many days can I keep the hotspot?
At this time we only have 14 hotspots for circulation so we are only allowing one hotspot, per address, for 14 days. We are not allowing consecutive checkouts or renewals so you will need to wait 14 days before you can check out another hotspot (i.e. if you check out a hotspot August 1st and it is due back August 15th your household can not check out another hotspot until August 29th).
How many can I borrow?
Due to limited quantities, only one device per address can be checked out and they are not eligible for renewal.
Why are you limiting the amount of time for each hotspot at each address?
Due to the fact that we have a limited number of hotspots, and they are currently in high demand, we want to make sure everyone is being given access to this privilege.
What happens if I fail to return it on time?
On the day after it is due, the hotspot will be deactivated. Each day that it is late a $5.00 fine will be incurred. All individuals that live at that address will lose the privilege to check out hotspots for up to 30 days the first offense, up to 60 days the second offense, and you will lose hotspot checkout privileges permanently after the third time a hotspot is returned late. (The exact amount of time is determined by the Director.)
What if I need help with the hotspot?
Please come in and ask for assistance or call us at 208.585.3931. Hotspots can be charged with the power cord that is in the included case, via USB port or by using the wall charger. Make sure the hotspot works on your device(s) before leaving town if you’re using it for a vacation. Please leave the hotspot turned on, as sometimes if you press the off button too long it resets the hotspot and you won’t be able to use it. Please do not overcharge the hotspot and only use the provided charger.
What if I lose or damage the hotspot?
Overdue fines are $5 a day. The WiFi hotspots will be turned off remotely if it is not returned on the due date, and internet access will not be available. If the hotspot is lost, please contact the library immediately. The replacement fee is the market value cost to replace the hotspot, which is currently $95 along with the processing fee of $5.00.
